You should all upgrade to flat blades when changing your wipers. They're not more expensive than standard wipers, and they are so much better. I have a 15 year old car, so it had the old standard wipers, not the fancy new flat bladed wipers, and the upgrade is cumpletely worth it !

Yep, stock blades on my FR-S were kinda weak (not bad, just not great) so I changed them out for the Bosch Icon blades. It's a night and day difference.

I went to the store to buy some beam-type wipers for my E34. I'm going to wait till my current set actually wears out, as it's going to be nearly $50 to replace all 3. I definitely will go beam, they're good for summer and winter, and they look a lot cleaner.

Night and day, absolutely right. I suspect it might be like wearing glasses for the first time.
Installed them on the parent's Passay 2 months ago (from Bosch), and on my car today (made by Valeo). Despite the fact I haven't drove a lot in the rain, each time I had to use the car, it was so much better, especially at night.

Flat blade wipers suck as much balls as conventional wipers. On both my E46 and Pilot the ends of the blades don't hit the windshield with the Bosch Icon flat blade wipers.

I've had horrible luck with them ripping here on multiple cars with multiple brands. I'm lucky to get 6 months out of them.

Bosch Icons are a ripoff. I am a huge fan of Bosch in general, but those wipers are a ripoff.

I have them on my vehicles, and they are better. But they're not perfect. They seem to hold road gunk a little better. I have to wipe the blade off more frequently than with traditional wipers.

what do u think of RainX? I love the stuff. IT doesn;t do much at city speeds but on the highway I love watchin the rain just roll off the windshield. Its mildly distracting as I like to look at the patterns the rain makes. The patterns man, the patterns

I had to google what it was. Never used, never knew it existed. But I assume it does kinda the same thing (probably better) than what a good complete carwash (with wax and everything) does to the car, bubbles rolling of it.

They are more aerodynamic thanks to know metal structure, it fits the shape of the windshield since its not as hard as standard wipers, and it doesn't wear out as quickly in my experience. It also wipes the rain better since it's softer than standard wipers.

I may have to look into upgrading. The blades on my car are simply not available locally in Brazil anymore, so I have to custom order them through shops, and that shit's expensive.

Ehh it all preference. I have installed both on my K1500 and there really isnt any difference and im actually thinking of switching the old style to the driver side due to brick aerodynamics of the 90s. The Flat beams can get picked up at highway speeds with a good gust where as the old style doesnt have that problem. I probably need new springs too but i know the old style will work

Depends on the car.
Newer cars that have much flatter windshields, do well with beam-style wipers in general, up to a point.
However, earlier cars, or cars with distinctly wrapped-around windshields, the beam type blade wipers don't curve enough to keep pressure on the ends of the windshield. My Miata can't use those wipers, the passenger side wiper doesn't even touch the right side of the windshield.
On my CUV, it has beam type blades, and they work well, except that the driver's blade is 26 inches long, and gets so long that if the windshield or the wiper blade isn't perfectly clean, the end of the wiper chatters across the glass, because the blade isn't torsionally rigid enough to overcome the rubber stiction on the glass. Some beam-type blades might be more rigid than others, but 13" radius from the center mount out to the end of the blade is a long distance for a thin metal strip backbone in a beam-type blade, rather than a 3-dimensional torsion frame and cantilevered articulation.

These are the types of answers that keep me coming back to Oppo.

This was a common issue on the E46 if you changed to the flat wipers you had to go for the 1 inch shorter blades and cars that had a problem lifting slight off centre from the lower portion of the windscreen had to have the plastic tab broken off (it served no purpose anyway) on the underside of the wiper arm to cure it.

The issue is that windshields curve more towards the A-pillars, and beam wipers aren't designed to hug that curve.

I've flat wipers on mine and used in conjunction with a good glass sealant means I only use wipers when I need them and at speeds over 40mph I actually turn them off.
Permanon do a Glass RTU (ready to use) which is a glass cleaner and sealer in one so spray on, wipe in and wipe off.
Better sealants are Gtechniq's G1 and G5. G5 being a medium term durability product with a life of two to four months (depending on wiper-wear, ie how much the wipers are used which gradually 'rubs' it of) where G1 takes a while and care to apply but you get approximately 12,000 life out of it. It's really great stuff.

G1 (after 9 months in heavy rain)

It worked on two of my friends E46 Coupes and the BMW forums. I've seen whether if left at full wiper length it actually take quite a chunk of paint out of the A pillar on the passenger side. Ouch!

Sounds like the wrong length was used. The coupe uses a 22" drivers blade and a 20" passenger blade if I recall correctly.

It was 23" and 20" but we put 22" and 20" on and that sorted it some after market sites suggest 22" and 20" anyway.

You had never heard of RainX before? I think that's actually a big deal. It's like saying you'd never heard of Armor All.

I heard of ArmorAll before, but never seen any. But that's probably because I live in Euroland.
